Dieses
Buch gehört zu den „Vampire Chronicles“, von denen
bislang zwei verfilmt worden sind („Interview mit einem Vampir“
und „Königin der Verdammten“). Merrick verbindet die
Geschichten um die Vampire Lestat und Louis de Pointe du Lac mit
denen der Mayfair-Hexen.
Merrick ist eine junge Frau aus der Familie der Mayfair-Hexen (allerdings aus einem anderen Zweig), die gebeten wird, dem Vampir Louis einen großen Gefallen zu tun, nämlich, den Geist von Claudia zu beschwören. Claudia war ein Kind und wurde von Lestat und Louis zum Vampir gemacht. Sie starb in Paris, noch immer ein Kind im Aussehen.
Erzählt wird die Geschichte von David Talbot, einem Vampir, der als Mensch den Talamasca, einem Orden, der das Übernatürliche beobachtet, angehörte. Als Mensch lernte er Merrick kennen, wurde ihr Mentor bei den Talamasca. Dann verschwand er von der Bildfläche, als zweierlei Dinge geschahen. David war ein alter Mann. Durch das Zusammentreffen mit einem Körperdieb bekam er einen jungen neuen Körper und wurde dann von Lestat zum Vampir gemacht. Er hat daher, im Gegensatz zu Louis oder Lestat, die Erfahrung des Alterns gemacht und kann nun davon profitieren.
Was Merrick als Lohn für die Beschwörung Claudias verlangt ... nun, was zunächst wie eine Katastrophe aussieht ist vielleicht doch für alle Beteiligten ein gute Sache.
Wem „Interview mit einem Vampir“ gefallen hat, sollte die anderen Bücher von Anne Rice gierig verschlingen.
